The Foxtrotter One Project: Family Room

I am excited to be sharing the first reveal from the Foxtrotter One Project. This new construction was project was completed earlier this year. I was privileged enough to design this home from construction through completion. The homeowners are a darling family of 7, who have been friends for many years. They trusted me completely throughout the process and gave me full control of the design of the exterior and interior of their home. The family room area is a grand space. This room is 20' x 20' in size and has a 2 story height ceiling. We added floor to ceiling trim work on one wall to add some interest and dimension to the expansive room. The ceiling also sports 12' painted beams. The homeowners wanted this to be a gathering place in their home, where their family could come together free from distraction. Consequently, the television was left out of this space. :) I designed this space to have optimal seating and plenty of table area to play boardgames, cards, etc. The sofas are 108" in length and the coffee tables are 48" squares. I added bit color to the mostly neutral palette of the room. The result is a space that can be enjoyed by parents and kids alike.

I hope you enjoyed the first of the reveals from this project. Stay tuned for more.

Fall/Winter Fashion Essentials

If you know me well, then you know my love for fashion is second only to my love for beautiful interiors. It's also no secret that my favorite seasons for fashion are fall and winter. Comfy sweaters, stylish boots, statement making jackets... they all get my heart pumping!  Today, I'm sharing with you some of my favorite and must have fashion items for this year's Fall and Winter seasons. Take a look...

1. A go to dress in the perfect Fall/Winter color.
It seems like there are always a plethora of get togethers or parties to attend during these colder months, having a great dress on hand can eliminate the stress that comes with figuring out what to wear. I wore this wrap dress when we took family pictures a couple weeks ago and it is sure to be my go to piece for party season this year.

2. The perfect poncho.
Poncho sweaters are all the rage right now, and to say I'm in love would be an understatement. They are chic, comfortable and perfect for those days when you ate a little too much pie the night before. ;)

3. A killer jacket that amps  up your style factor and makes you feel like a million bucks.
This jacket may turn out to be the best investment I've made all season. Every time I put it on, I feel like a rockstar. Dressed up with a skirt and heels or dressed down with leggings and sneakers, a great jacket can make you look polished and put together.

4. Booties, Booties and more Booties.
A girl can never have too many shoes, right? And in the Fall and Winter months a girl really can't have too many fabulous booties. Weather your shoe style is classic, trendy, casual or formal, there is a bootie that is out there for you. Better yet, pick one up in each style. You'll be glad you did. :)

5. A great pair of distressed jeans.
The truth is, I'll be 40 next year. I'm always trying to stay on trend, tasteful and age appropriate. I love the distressed jean trend, because it allows me to take my somewhat simple and classic style, add some edge to it and make my outfits feel current. Every girl knows a great pair of jeans is worth their weight in gold and a fabulous pair of distressed ones is the perfect addition to that treasure!

6. Handbags, Hats and Scarves.
A few years ago, I turned my fashion accessory game up a few notches and it is made a world of difference in pulling together my overall style. Like any great interior, the right accessories finish of the look and tell the world you've put some thought and effort into how you are presenting yourself to the world. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of days when I throw on a sweatshirt and leggings and run out the door, but when I want to make sure I'm putting my best foot forward, I make sure to pull the right accessories in with my clothing. For the Fall and Winter Seasons, a great hat, a beautiful scarf and a pretty handbag or tote in the perfect fall color are staples in my wardrobe.
